Overview

During my undergraduate studies, I created plein air paintings at a fishing village in Suzhou's Taihu Lake.

I sketched the basic composition using colored pencils and then layered on blocks of color with oil pastels, leaving the outlines of animals and sunlight in white. Then I used a card to scrape off the wax from the paper to achieve the different tones and textures. In the end, I used colored pencils again to add detailed textures like the wood grain, water surface, fishing nets, buildings, and animals.

Paintings

Overview

During my undergraduate studies, I created several sketches, including still life, landscapes, and quick sketches of people.

These sketching sessions enhanced my understanding of the interplay between light and shadow, the complexity of human anatomy, the fluidity of movement, and the varied textures of different materials.

Overview

Here are some of my illustration works from recent years. There was a time when I was torn between 3D and 2D, as a recent graduate, I found that creating illustrations was more lucrative and offered quicker returns, which made it challenging to decide which path to pursue as my main career.

However, with advice from friends and leaders in the gaming industry, I firmly chose 3D. I felt that this direction allowed for a deeper understanding of game development processes and promised a broader scope for future growth. Moreover, learning and applying new technologies were more intriguing to me than painting.

When AI painting emerged in 2022, I immediately experimented with Midjourney and Stable Diffusion, which further solidified my previous convictions.

Now, I view painting more as a form of relaxation, a quick way to document new ideas as they arise, and a means to achieve the final 3D effects.
